Jaroslav Kolkus (Lieutenant General, Ret.), born in 1954. After graduating from Military College of Ground Forces in Vyškov he held basic command positions at the same College from 1977 to 1982. Postgraduate studies at the Military Academy in Brno attended from 1982-1985. In the years 1985 - 1987, he served as Chief of Staff of the tank regiment. During the performance of his duties he was posted to the leaders motorized rifle regiments course in Solněčnogorsk. From 1987 to 1992 he served as the regiment commander and in period of 1992- 1996 as a brigade and division deputy commander. From 1996 to 1999 he worked at the Corps Headquarters in Olomouc as Chief of Administration and combat training and at the Ground Forces Headquarters as Director of the Department of combat training. In 1998 he graduated General Staff Course. From 1999 to 2001 he served as the Division Chief of Staff in Hranice and in Brno. In 2001 graduated from the NATO Defense College in Rome. After completion of tasks commander of the SFOR contingent in 2002 was appointed the Director of the Operations Division of the General Staff, and then in 2003 to the position of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of ACR, where he worked until 2008. In 2008-2011 served as Military Representative at Permanent Delegation of the Czech Republic to NATO HQ and Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to EU in Brussels. Currently he is working in the Centre for security and Military-strategy Studies of the University of Defence in Brno.
