Evaluation of the Annual Physical Training Examination and Possible Suggestions for Change in the Endurance Discipline of RunningReviewed - ResearchJiří Néma, Petr Lašák, Libor Wawrzacz, Vladimír PavlíkVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 3/2024, Vol. XXXIII. (LXV.): 91-109 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.33.2024.03.091-109 The annual examination is an integral part of the physical training system of a soldier of the Army of the Czech Republic, which assesses his physical fitness. This assessment provides dual feedback - it informs examinees of how they are performing against normative tables and each other, and at the same time, gives commanders an idea of the current physical fitness of their subordinates. This thesis focuses on the endurance event of the 12-minute run (also known as the Cooper test). Based on data from 2011 to 2021 and nearly 50,000 evaluated tests, the potential effects of age on soldiers' physical performance and appropriate adjustments to individual age limits were examined. The analysis showed that the difficulty setting for achieving the same rating differs for both genders and that there is a different decline in physical performance with increasing age than reflected in current norms. Based on these analyses, a proposal for modifications to the annual physical training test was developed and is appended to this paper. |
Introduction of Autonomous Combat Vehicles into the Czech Armed ForcesReviewed - ReviewJan KovandaVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 2/2023, Vol. XXXII. (LXIV.): 83-97 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.32.2023.02.083-097 The article addresses the issue of the emergence of new technologies and their impact on the capabilities of the Czech Armed Forces (CAF). A summary of the recommendations is presented. In particular, there is a need for a conceptual approach to the integration of new systems in order to avoid spontaneous purchasing, which could be very logistically demanding. The very rapid development in the field of unmanned autonomous systems using elements of artificial intelligence offers opportunities to use them in support of the tasks of CAF. Due to the breadth of this issue, the scope is limited to the area of the Special Forces, which introduce these new sophisticated means into use throughout the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic. |
Possibilities of Developing Medical Support Capabilities in the Area of Chemical, Biological Radiological and Nuclear DefenceReviewed - ReviewAleš Tichý, Richard SaibertVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 1/2023, Vol. XXXII. (LXIV.): 98-117 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.32.2023.01.098-117 The article deals with the evaluation of current possibilities of medical support capabilities in the area of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence. The evaluation of national strategic documents shows that the area of providing care in the event of chemical and biological hazards is significantly more developed than in the area of radiation, while the security threats associated with radiation are constantly growing. Analysis of NATO standardization documents in the field of medical support and relevant Czech doctrinal documents was carried out, based on which the diagnostics and triage of irradiated persons, called biological dosimetry, was identified as a potential capability. Using the capability planning methodology and based on the evaluation of the functional areas, a conceptual approach to the development of biological dosimetry capabilities was defined. The presented recommendations also include a proposal for the organizational structure of the Czech Armed Forces biodosimetric network. |

(LXIII.): 172-202 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.31.2022.04.172-202 The aim of this study was to create an overview of the Czech Armed Forces' development in approach to environmental protection from 1989 to 2022. Using the methods of analysis, synthesis and comparison of the Czech, EU´s and NATO´s environmental legislation, we created a comprehensive and previously unpublished overview of environmental protection within the Czech Armed Forces. Found outputs were set into illustrations depicting the activities in the environmental field with internal links between civil legislation, EU's requirements, and NATO's policy in chronological order. We conclude that the year 2000 represents a key milestone from which the approach to environmental protection have stagnated. Among the reasons for the stagnation, we identify commanders' concerns about "green approach" to troop training and the lack environmental education within defence department. |

How Far is the World to Achieve World Peace and Why?Reviewed - ReviewMartin HavlíkVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 2/2020, Vol. XXIX. (LXI.): 76-91 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.29.2020.02.076-091 The main goal of this article is to discuss in the context of selected security intentions the world peace as an idealistic phenomenon, which is determined by many factors in the current dynamically changing environment. The intention is not to compare individual philosophical theories, but to provide selected synthetic security indicators that can help measure the state of the security environment. On the basis of these arguments, we can observe a downward trend in the rate represented, also linked to an increase in the activities of terrorist groups and generally transnational threats. The article also highlights the current relatively rigid role of the UN in relation to global peace. The international community and world peace are particularly influenced by the mutual relations and the rivalry of the superpowers. In future conflicts, the transition from the physical form of the battlefield to the imaginary platform, represented mainly by cyber space, will be more evident. |
