Artillery in the Vojenské rozhledy JournalReviewed - ReviewLadislav Potužák, Jan IvanVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. MC/2020, Vol. XXIX. (LXI.): 55-64 The goal of this article is to evaluate the portion and content of articles focused on the artillery in military journals, especially in the Vojenské rozhledy in the period of the 1920 to the present. Articles are evaluated in three periods. The first one includes years 1920-1944, meaning times since establishment of the Czech military review until its cancellation before the end of World War 2. Next period includes years 1951-1991 when magazine called Vojenská mysl had been issued as a replacement of Czech military review. Additionally, in years 1951-1988, the magazine called Bojová příprava had been issued. The third period begins by the year of 1992, when Czech military review has started to be issued again. In addition to that, in the same year, magazine called Vojenský professional was issued, but this magazine was implemented to Vojenské rozhledy in 2003. Particular focus is given on the first period, which could be considered as a period of the biggest growth in the Czech artillery. |

EU's Common Security and Defence Policy in a Nutshell - Part OneNonreviewed - OtherVilém KolínVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 3/2020, Vol. XXIX. (LXI.): 87-101 The Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), on the basis of which the EU builds its defence identity, has a broad spectrum. It focuses not only on the defence component of the CSDP, but also on associated areas such as defence industry and market, defence research and development, and supports them with related legislation and various policy and financial instruments. On the one hand, this prevents the issue of European defence from being easily confined. On the other hand, this reflects the robustness of the EU's approach to European defence and its willingness to mobilize all available resources. The article describes the evolution of European defence, its major milestones and actors, related processes and rules, and the key tools that are now largely concentrated under the umbrella of the CSDP. (LX.): 50-66 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.28.2019.02.050-066 Tanks and anti-tank weapons in modernized and innovated forms will still appear on battlefields in the next 20 years to eliminate armoured targets and personnel with the usage of precision-guided munition. The progress of electronation and digitalization of tanks allows better situation awareness on the battlefield and cooperation with other military assets. An active protection measures were introduced to protect the crew such as reactive armour, active defence weapon systems and composite armour. By establishing a safe perimeter with active defence systems, tanks can sustain the incoming anti-tank weapons. Hence is the U.S. Army currently looking for a replacement of 3rd generation Abrams tanks. The U.S. Army is considering in this case unmanned vehicle as well. The Russian Federation on the other hand enhances conventional tank scheme with modern technologies. Experiment of Using Structured Techniques in Intelligence AnalysisReviewed - ReviewJozef VojtekVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 4/2019, Vol. XXVIII. (LX.): 32-43 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.28.2019.04.032-043 Research into the use of structured analytical techniques has shown that analysts use specific structured techniques to achieve better analysis results than using traditional intuitive approaches. The experiment was based on solving the analytical tasks of two intelligence scenarios in a set of 32 people. To verify the null hypothesis, a chi-square test of independence was performed at a 5% significance level. In the control/intuitive and experimental/structured technique groups, responses were evaluated in four criteria, in an overall qualitative intelligence analysis, in rank corps, depending on the time of service and education. The number of correct answers was the highest in the experimental group when dealing with the intelligence analysis criteria for both scenarios. Improved analysis of the experimental group in the second scenario solution was statistically significant. The null hypothesis, using structured methodology improves qualitative intelligence analysis, is not rejected. In the experiment, other test criteria are below than the critical value. The results of the research have shown that the success of the problem solution is influenced by the correct use of the Hypothesis Testing technique. The use of structured techniques depends on the level of knowledge and the type of intelligence problem. At the same time, the conduct of research has shown the influence of analysts' cognitive biases. |

(LX.): 41-54 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.28.2019.03.041-054 In May 2017, Islamists of the South-Philippine Separate Groups of Abu Sajyaf and Maute occupied Marawi City in Mindanao. Five-month fighting was attended by more than 3,000 armed forces against about 1,000 jihadists. Dozens of foreign fighters took part in the fighting on the Islamists side and confirming the pan-Islamic ethos of the Islamic state's ideology in this part of the world. Philippine troops were not prepared for the character of fighting in urbanized environment against motivated and experienced militants. The shortcomings were manifested in the conducting of operations in a heavily built-up area, but also in low-level coordination and limits of capabilities of the technical intelligence. It was decided to create Special Operations Command to which all Philippine special purpose forces are subordinated. The conflict experience has initiated a change of doctrinal approach that focuses on air support to reduce losses due to inaccurate bombing and acquisitions of high-tech reconnaissance and weapon systems. |
