Combat Use of Light Infantry: Tactics with LMV IvecoReviewed - ReviewKarel ZetochaVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 1/2018, Vol. XXVII. (LIX.): 85-105 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.27.2018.01.85-106 Light Infantry units are primarily equipped with the Iveco light armored vehicles in the Army of the Czech Republic. Similar type of vehicles was acquired by the armies of some other NATO members. Armored LMVs represent a new category of equipment and no specific tactical procedures have yet been created. The aim of the text was to develop general tactical light infantry procedures for the current training needs of units with Iveco LMVs. In the text, combat battle drills on vehicles and tactical procedures for the use of light units equipped with the LMV Iveco have been created. Combat deployment experience and results of live simulation were main source of information for development of LMV tactics and procedures. Presented procedures can be used for training of units equipped with LMV Iveco. The use of light armored vehicles also showed the design limits of this technique. LMVs Iveco cannot fulfill the role of primary vehicle of light infantry units on a conventional battlefield mainly due to their low level of endurance. |
Neorealism and Contemporary US-Russian Military Competition in the Post-Soviet SpaceReviewed - ReviewJan EichlerVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 2/2017, Vol. XXVI. (LVIII.): 89-105 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.26.2017.02.089-105 In the light of neorealist theory, the Eastern enlargement of NATO satisfies basic feature of expansion: 9 former countries of the Warsaw Pact become members of NATO. USA as a Sea power reinforced its superiority at the detriment of the RF as a continental power. The annexation of Crimea, as a Russian answer, had intensified security fears of post - Soviet countries and of Poland and enlarged the space for external balancing of the USA. Author warns that a confrontational structure had become typical for the area or the Western part of the Post - Soviet space. It increases the number of military incidents, and, even, the threat of a direct military confrontation including a Russian use of tactical nuclear arms, being inspired by the Rogers plan from 1980´s. |

Illegal Use of Child Soldiers - a Neglected Question in the Preparation of Professional SoldiersReviewed - ReviewJana BurešováVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 4/2017, Vol. XXVI. (LVIII.): 55-67 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.26.2017.04.055-068 Use of child soldiers by rebel armed forces has been growing in recent years. In comparison to preceding conflicts, main reasons for their use have changed significantly - at the present time, children have become highly efficient psychological weapon in battles against the military from developed countries. This may have momentous consequences not only for the given children but also for professional soldiers. Fighting against child soldiers can indisputably affect the soldiers' capability to discharge their duties. Furthermore, they have to cope with many individual moral dilemmas. The article will look into potential moral aspects regarding confrontation between child soldiers and members of professional armed forces. In the following section, training of professional soldiers and preparation of military mission will be explored. Subsequently, weaknesses which are crucial to forestall in the future will be outlined. |

Russia's Influence on the Conflict Dynamics in Nagorno KarabakhReviewed - ReviewPavlína BláhováVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 3/2017, Vol. XXVI. (LVIII.): 3-13 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.26.2017.03.003-013 Frozen conflict in Nagorno Karabakh has been representing a threat to the regional stability for the last two decades. Sudden escalation of violence in 2016, known as Four-Day War, spurred new discussions on factors influencing the territorial dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan. While adversaries explain the conflict as a reaction to military provocations or as a rally round the flag effect, this article explains the dynamics of the conflict through the influence of the third party - Russia. Russia considers the Caucasus to be its sphere of the influence and therefor aims to spread its control through strengthening strategic ties with both Armenia and Azerbaijan in order to prevent the West from projecting its power in the region. Russia's role of the superpower has therefor a vast influence on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict development. |

Professional Soldiers Act Within the Czech Legal System (on the Issues of Certain Terms Interpretation)Reviewed - ReviewLeopold Skoruša, Ondřej Horák, Radim Vičar, Tomáš ZbořilVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 2/2017, Vol. XXVI. (LVIII.): 33-43 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.26.2017.02.033-043 The article deals with the general considerations on the relationship between Public and Private Law and on the relationship of the Professional Soldiers Act (Act no. 221/1999 Coll., on Professional Soldiers) to other legal regulations. Development and Change of the Concept of Hybrid WarReviewed - ReviewRichard StojarVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 2/2017, Vol. XXVI. (LVIII.): 44-55 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.26.2017.02.044-055 The aim of the paper is description and analysis of the transformation of the concept of hybrid war. The Russian intervention in Ukraine in 2014 meant principal re-definition of the concept which is reflected in the contemporary views on the hybrid wars and hybrid threats. The concept of hybrid war had been questioned in the past already as his validity and the efforts to be applied on the past conflicts deformed its innovative content. One could argue, that adding new dimensions and topic such as economic factors, ideological activity etc. brings risk of concept´s expansion which goes far behind of the framework of the phenomenon of the war and the use of armed forces in the armed conflicts. The author draws attention to the fact that the definition of hybrid war tends to be subordinate to the current needs, which in turn only hinders their explanation potential. |

Operational Adaptability and Human Dimension of the Armed ConflictNonreviewed - Othermjr. Ing. Tomáš NovákVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 3/2016, Vol. XXV. (LVII.): 102-112 The article discusses the operational adaptability, which will be needed, in accordance with US, in future armed conflicts. The capability of operational adaptability has a significant impact particularly on the operations of land forces, which are still considered as a paramount military power. One of the prerequisites for achieving operational adaptability is effective influencing the dynamics of the human environment in armed conflict. Current development and emphasizing technology over the course of armed conflict detached too fare the War from its intangible political, cultural and psychological context. Attack scenarios show some of the possible ways of improvement for the project. In conclusion, the author makes recommendations for possible adjustments and assess the potential of using the project as a protection against asymmetric attacks. After reading the text, the reader is informed about the project, its components, as well as recommendations that can be applied in the further use of this type of defense. |

Defense Capability and Armed ForcesNonreviewed - Otherdoc. Ing. Milan Kubeša, CSc., plk. gšt. Ing. Tomáš RakVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 4/2015, Vol. XXIV. (LVI.): 68-78 The article aims at highlighting the dangers of long underestimating the need to permanently improve the defense capabilities to deal with current and future security threats. Authors suggest propositions on where to direct the efforts to improve the competence of the Defense to meet the Act Of Defense Requirements. The first part of the article describes, after brief analysis, the options of collective defense and explains the need to solve demanding tasks on own territory under national responsibility in parallel. The second part of the article describes the main thoughts of the theory of "territorial defense", which is missing in current Doctrine of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic. Theory of territorial defense makes a foundation, upon which the preparedness of the Armed forces of the Czech Republic should be built. In the third part of the article the authors discuss the alternative of implementing the collective defense principle by building multinational joint forces, independent of national armed forces, in transnational responsibility of the coalition of member states, dedicated to the territorial defense of member states and to crisis response expeditionary operations. |
