For standardization reasons, the forces of NATO nations have agreed on several principles, embedded in STANAG 2937 that is the basic document for nutrition of soldiers, compulsory for all NATO member states. Up to now, as a field food support, the Army of the Czech Republic has had at its disposal only the so-called "combat ration food", offered in two variants. At Jan Bata University Zlín, experts finished the development of pre-prepared meals, i.e. "meals ready to eat" intended to be prepared in field conditions. They are intended to help in crisis situations, in time of lack of food. For handling, packing and traffic grounds, food rations are planned for 25 persons. |

Iran's Nuclear Program: An Important Tool of Domestic and Foreign PolicyReviewed - ReviewIrena KalhousováVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 4/2013, Vol. XXII. (LIV.): 42-57 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.22.2013.04.042-057 Its own nuclear program is an important instrument of Iran's domestic and foreign policy. In foreign policy it is used for promotion of its regional interests and it also serves as a guarantee against foreign actor's interference in Iranian domestic affairs. So far, the negotiations between Iran and the international community have not brought about any tangible results. Among other reasons, there are different expectations of both parties. The international community is ready to lift sanctions, supposing Iran accepts the UN resolutions. Iran, by contrast, demands to be recognized as an internationally recognized regional power, with legitimate rights and interests. |

NATO Defence Planning Process in (Permanent) TransitionReviewed - ReviewPhDr. Jan StejskalVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 4/2013, Vol. XXII. (LIV.): 71-80 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.22.2013.04.071-080 NATO Defence Planning Process (NDPP) is a subject of quite frequent reviews and amendments in order to meet the needs of NATO as an organization and of each Ally. The current initiative, based on a tasking from the Chicago summit in May 2012, is referred to as "Enhancing the NDPP". More emphasis is also placed on timely consultations among Allies whenever they intend to make significant changes in their defence inventories and capabilities. Recently approved NATO Defence Planning Capability Targets (June 2013) previously known as Force Goals, are for the first time affected by application of the so-called "50% planning assumption" which aims to redress the burden-sharing imbalance between the US and other Allies. |
Armament of Mechanized Force: Keeping on BVP-2 and the Vision of DevelopmentReviewed - ReviewNadporučík Mgr. et Mgr. Karel Zetocha, Ph.D.Vojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 4/2013, Vol. XXII. (LIV.): 81-90 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.22.2013.04.081-090 The article is an analysis of the further development of mechanized battalions of Czech forces (ACR). The defence department will have to take a major decision how to replace old tracked infantry combat vehicles (ICVs) BVP-2. Several years ago, it was decided to acquire those vehicles for one brigade, so the best option could be to keep this project on. The acquisition and simultaneous operations of two similar vehicles, wheeled and tracked ones, are not effective for forces of ACR size. The extra costs of operation would not produce an adequate increase in capabilities of mechanized units. The author presents dozens of arguments to support this conclusion and at the end he makes recommendations for the future acquisition strategy in Czech defence department. |

Some Aspects of Term of Decontamination Perception on Both National and Alliance LevelsReviewed - ReviewPodplukovník Ing. Pavel Otřísal, Ph.D., MBAVojenské rozhledy / Czech Military Review Nr. 3/2013, Vol. XXII. (LIV.): 67-75 | DOI: 10.3849/2336-2995.22.2013.03.067-075 The classification of a term of "decontamination" comes out not only from the Alliance norms, national military regulations and publications, but also from the documents that deal with the conception of decontamination for civilian purposes, i.e. from documents of the Fire Rescue Brigades of the Czech Republic. The paper analyses approaches to the term of "decontamination"practically only by means of definitions in use nowadays. As there are two periods with dozens of common characteristics, we can find a number of similarities. This article aims to point them out. |
